The Trim Out: Tile, Tub, Master Shower, Replacement Window, Double Sink Vanity, Zodiac Quartz Countertop
By moving the bathroom entry door, the master bedroom wall now has uninterrupted wall space for placement of furniture. In addition, the open area above the old bath entry door prevented control of light levels in the master bedroom. By closing up this opening, the master bedroom light levels can now be controlled. The window treatments in the master bedroom were upgraded with "black out" hanging curtains and now the master bedroom can be completely dark even in the middle of the day.
The textured ceilings in the bath area and water closet were stripped and prepped for smooth ceiling final paint. The exhaust fan / light fixtures above the master shower and in the water closet were replaced and vented through the roof (instead of into the attic as they were before the renovation). (3) additional air sealed recessed can light fixtures on a dedicated dimmable circuit where added to the bathroom ceiling in addition to the existing single light fixture above the tub.
The original plan was to convert the existing IR cans and wall sconces to dimmable CFL's. This allowed the original IR ceiling rough in light fixture cans to be used, and insulated from the attic side with 2" rigid foam insulation box's. This then allowed additional fiberglass loose fill blow in insulation to be added above the entire bath area.
A solid wood decorative panel that matched the wood style of the twin vanity cabinet was installed as the access panel to the plumbing of the whirpool full immersion style tub that was installed. The water closet commode was replaced with a low flow comfort height commode and a RG-6 cable outlet and power outlet circuit were added to the wall above the entry area to the bathroom. A 30" flat screen television was mounted on this wall. The light fixtures and mirrors above the vanity were replaced, all the door hardware & hinges were changed from polished brass to brushed nickel to match the faucets, shower and bath trim style.
The bathroom counter top selected was Dupont "Zodiac" Quartz solid surface, with under mount sinks. The bath vanity cabinet has the quiet glide drawer hardware and is trimmed out in brushed nickel.
